Hopefully the weather will be improved somewhat over February despite the late arrival of Spring. If your looking for some ideas for what to do, or places for the babysitter to take the kids, check out these fun local ideas.

The Boston Marathon: Monday, April 15

While you may not be up for running the marathon, weather permitting, it can be a very fun spectator sport.  Take the kids and cheer on the runners. You can find more information about this yearly event on the Boston Marathon web site.

Sports Museum at the TD Garden – Boston

With more pleasant weather upon us, it is a great week to get out and explore the region. One fun stop for the sports nut in your life may be the Sports Museum at the Boston Garden. Open daily, except a few selects dates, the museum celebrates the character of Boston sports. Check out the Museum web site for more information on rates, hours and exhibits.

The Butterfly Place – Westford, MA

This is a great place to find a bit of warm weather beauty. Come check out the local and tropical species of butterflies from all over the world, learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and stroll through the winding paths as the butterflies flutter all around. Photography is encouraged!

Children’s Museum – Boston

Always educational, and most importantly, FUN, the Boston Children’s Museum always has something going on. From interesting exhibits to hands on learning, the kiddos can spend a lot of time exploring all the Museum has to offer.

Hiking – Various Trails

We hope Spring will be well underway by April vacation week, so why not put on your hiking shoes, and find a hiking trail near you to explore with the kids? Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and learn about the local natural environment. Pack plenty of water and snacks, or even a picnic lunch, binoculars, maybe a camera and set out for an adventure. Another fun idea is to have a scavenger hunt. Either find a list, or make up a list of items everyone has to find and check off during the hike. Check out the Department of Conservation and Recreation for more trail information, or visit your local library or town hall.

Other fun places to check out:

New England Aquarium

Boston Science Museum

Old Sturbridge Village

Spring Skiing – Some say April is the best time to ski. Check out this link for conditions and deals at New England Ski resorts.

For those that are still stuck in a cubical and looking for childcare, or something fun for the kids to do, check with your local school as some schools have April vacation week programs and camps set up.
