The Ford Fiesta is Ford’s second best seller globally. Here enters the 2014 Fiesta, where small really is big. The Fiesta is a subcompact car, with European inspired handling, an aggressive stance and bright, dynamic colors.
The Fiesta comes in four trim levels, S, SE, Titanium and the latest ST version, which brings the new 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine to the picture. Two body styles are also offered, a sedan and a hatchback. The Fiesta starts at $14,600. A well designed interior includes seating for 5 full sized passengers, and as always, Ford makes safety a priority.
Let’s take a closer look at the ST version of this peppy little car. The ST model is offered in a 6 speed manual transmission only, and includes the unique ST rear spoiler, grill and wheels in the package. But the most special feature of this innovative vehicle is the new 1.0L EcoBoost engine,
What is EcoBoost?
According to Ford, the EcoBoost family of engines “combines advanced direct injection technology and turbocharging with a gasoline engine. The end result is an engine that can deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy, 15 percent lower CO2 emissions, and improved driving performance when compared to larger displacement engines.” Basically, it is a much smaller engine that makes a very powerful punch. The technology allows for the same, or better, performance, than older engines.
The 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine, is in fact, so small that it can fit into a medium sized suitcase. It made it’s journey from Detroit to Los Angeles for the 2012 LA Auto Show in just that. It is reported that airport security was quite caught off guard when the mighty little engine went through the security check point. Picture this, a tub with shoes going down the conveyer belt next to this beauty. It must have been quite the sight.
What does all this mean? Well, the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST will boost a fully gasoline powered engine that claims to get over 40 mpg, putting it in territory that only hybrids have been able to touch. Coming in the Fall of 2013, this little car that could, will be one piece of the ever changing automotive landscape of the US, where the focus has shifted to smaller, more efficient vehicles, a concept Europe has embraced much earlier than those of us across the pond. Keep checking the main Ford website as more information becomes available during the year, and check the Acton Ford website often to learn when you might be able to take one for spin.
